Onlays, Crowns & Bridges

Restoring Your Smile

ONLAYS, CROWNS & BRIDGES

At The Dentists of Didsbury, we know how much your smile matters. If you’ve got a tooth that’s damaged, weakened, or missing, onlays, crowns and bridges can help bring it back to function—making your smile stronger, more comfortable, and natural-looking.

What is a Crown?

CROWNS

A crown is like a little cap for your tooth. It covers and protects a damaged tooth, helping it work like it should and keeping it safe from further wear or decay. Crowns are perfect if you’ve had a big filling, a cracked tooth, or a root canal treatment.

What is an Onlay?

Similar to a crown, an onlay caps your tooth. While a crown covers the entire tooth surface, an onlay covers only part of a tooth, helping to retain more of your natural tooth structure without compromising the overall tooth health.

What is a Bridge?

A bridge does exactly what it sounds like—it “bridges” the gap where a tooth is missing. It’s made up of one or more false teeth, held in place by the healthy teeth either side of the gap. Bridges not only improve your smile, but they also help you chew properly and stop the rest of your teeth drifting to as they would if the missing tooth were not replaced.

How the Treatment Works

01

Consultation & Planning

We’ll talk you through your options and make sure an onlay, crown or bridge is the right choice for you.

02

Preparation

Your tooth (or teeth) is gently shaped to make room for the onlay, crown or bridge material. We’ll take a digital impression so your new onlay, crown or bridge fits perfectly.

03

Provisional Onlay/Crown/Bridge

While your permanent one is being made, we’ll place a temporary crown or bridge to keep you comfortable.

04

Fitting the Permanent Onlay, Crown or Bridge

At your next appointment, we’ll carefully place your new onlay, crown or bridge, making sure it fits, that you’re happy with how it looks, feels comfortable, and looks natural before going ahead and cementing it into place.

Why Choose Onlays, Crowns or Bridges?

These types of restorations

  • Strengthen and protect damaged teeth

  • Restore your ability to chew and speak comfortably

  • Prevent other teeth from shifting

  • Give you a natural-looking, confident smile

Caring for Your Onlay, Crown or Bridge

Once your onlay, crown or bridge is in place, caring for it is easy. Just brush and clean between your teeth like you normally would and come for regular mouth health checks and hygiene visits. With good care, your onlay, crown or bridge can last for many years.

At The Dentists of Didsbury, our team will make sure your experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We’re here to answer your questions and help you smile with confidence again!
