Veneers & Smile Design
Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten your front teeth. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look whole again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth, with a thicker section replacing the broken part. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.
A Smile Design involves one or more cosmetic, dental or facial rejuvenation procedures to improve the aesthetics of your smile. A smile makeover to one person could mean something completely different from another, and it is a very individual choice. For example, some people want the perfectly white Hollywood smile makeover with pearly white porcelain veneers and other people may just want a simple improvement, such as the replacement of amalgam fillings with composite and teeth whitening.
As the name suggests a Smile Design is a new smile that has been designed to look better in many ways. It may align crowded teeth, close gaps, reduce protrusion, whiten the smile, reduce a gummy smile, widen a narrow smile, change the length or shape of teeth, replace missing teeth or any combination of the above. A smile makeover usually involves at least the top front eight or ten teeth and sometimes the lower front eight or ten teeth too. The most frequent treatments used in a smile makeover are multiple porcelain veneers because they are the most conservative restoration and because they are strong and highly aesthetic.
However, porcelain crowns, bridges and implants can also be part of a smile makeover depending on your needs.
